The Annabel Croft Tennis Academy was founded in 2009 at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Roehampton. This programme is now in its 8th year and offers coaching services to over 400 players on a weekly basis. These classes form a large part of what is also on offer at our academy resorts overseas, with ACTA coaching professionals using a number of drills and exercises both at home in the UK and for holiday guests in each resort.
Players coming to an Annabel Croft Tennis Academy can expect the following unique tennis features that will make their time on court both inspiring and valuable.
UK Based Teaching Professionals:
As a UK based company ACTA is fully in support of British Tennis and its qualified coaches. All our coaches working overseas are accredited to the LTA and are chosen for their unique ability to create a positive experience whilst on court with their pupils. We are proud of our ability to supply coaches who are strong players, good communicators and great fun on court. Our British based coaches are complimented by a range of international teaching professionals who offer an alternative perspective for players and are able to teach in a range of languages including Spanish, French, German and Russian.
Smaller Groups, Accelerated Learning…
One of the key ingredients to the academy coaching programme is our emphasis on group coaching. ACTA offers a range of daily groups for both adults and children to participate in with the aim to keep the ratio of players to coach to a maximum of 6 players (in some classes such as our adult tennis courses, we restrict this number to 1:3 or 1:4).
Both adults and juniors will be encouraged to work around our coaching philosophy of “Movement & Repetition” which encourages player development through improving the relationship between footwork, ball striking and tactical decision making.
Smaller groups means more time hitting balls and more opportunity for feedback from the coach, something which really helps players improve quickly over a short space of time. Our coaches come armed with large baskets of balls too! – there is no shortage of opportunities to keep trying to perfect each footwork position or stroke.
All of our groups are timetabled carefully to allow adults and juniors to train at the same time (this is usually 9.30am-11.30am each morning), allowing families to maximize their time off court as well as on it.
Commitment to Technology…
All players visiting ACTA will be given access to the latest video analysis technology for training purposes. This technology is best used on a one to one basis and to fix any technical issues within a players game, but its has been used effectively by our coaching team to help players work on positioning in doubles or to help with other match play areas.
ACTA is also proud to be partnered by Wilson for its use of rackets and balls and our Sony Smart Sensor system is available at all of our academies. Using mobile or tablet technology, Smart Sensor gives instant feedback to coaches to show a players contact points on the racket, swing speeds and balls speeds. Particularly helpful for technical development and equipment changes, this system is great for all standards of player.
Comprehensive Weekly Tennis Programme…
One of the key features to a successful tennis holiday is the ability to meet and play against new players during your stay. Our weekly tennis programme in peak season, offers a range of opportunities that are designed to do just that, no matter whether you are a superstar player or just looking for a social game. These are some of the highlights that you can find at our overseas academies:
- Turn Up Coaching Clinics – Work on a specific area of your game, work on your fitness or simply just come along to test your skills, our turn up clinics range from Cardio Tennis to Rusty Rackets and run on a week to week basis. Simply check with the coaching team to see what is on during your stay.
- Tournaments and Mix Ins – Each Wednesday evening, our coaches run Club Evening at our academies allowing players the chance to get some social tennis in during their stay or to perhaps get some friendly practice in place to test their new skills on court. Each week also features a range of tournaments, from junior competitions through to family challenges and round robin events. There are some great prizes on offer as well for the winner and always a cold drink and a few stories afterwards!
- Tennis Welcome – Each Sunday afternoon our coaching team host our weekly tennis welcome which is designed to give players a chance to have their game assessed ready for the tennis coaching that lies ahead. Coaches will be able to run through any particular goal setting that a player might like to undertake, check equipment or give advice on strings and grips. Its also the time when we try and group players according to their standard of play for the week ahead so it’s a great time to turn up and put your name forward.
